The Prosegur Group strengthens its emissions offsetting program by supporting a UN project to conserve more than 724,000 hectares of the Peruvian Amazon
The initiative allows an estimated reduction of 2,086,089 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent per year, directly benefiting 793 families with forest concessions and improving their livelihoods and income.
Madrid, 25 August 2026.- Prosegur, the global benchmark in innovative private security solutions, and Prosegur Cash, the global leader in cash and valuables logistics and end-to-end cash management solutions, have selected for their 2026 CO₂ emissions offsetting plan a REDD+ project in Peru, the UN's climate mitigation mechanism to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in developing countries by combating greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation and forest degradation.
The project is being developed in the Madre de Dios region of southeastern Peru, where Brazil nut concessions are facing increasing pressures from agricultural expansion, illegal mining and unsustainable land use. In response, the initiative protects more than 724,000 hectares of tropical forest.
From a climate perspective, the project helps prevent the emission of approximately 2.09 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent per year by averting deforestation and the degradation of forest ecosystems, putting the initiative among the projects with the greatest impact within the international portfolio of nature-based solutions.
The program combines technology and advanced forest management, including satellite monitoring systems, patrols and early warning mechanisms to detect illegal activities such as unauthorized logging. These tools are integrated with sustainable management practices aimed at guaranteeing the long-term conservation of the ecosystem.
At the social level, the project will have a direct impact on local communities linked to forestry activity. In total, 793 families will improve their living conditions and income thanks to the sustainable management of the forest and associated actions. Likewise, direct jobs of high ecological and social value have been generated, contributing to the economic development of the region. REDD+ Madre de Dios also contributes to the preservation of biodiversity and climate resilience in the Peruvian Amazon, one of the richest areas of species on the planet and key to the regulation of the global climate.
